Royal Opera House Big Screen Events

The Royal Opera House Big Screen Events are back! I don't think they have chosen the best dates but the May and July ones should have okay weather. They are a great way to have a bit of a ballet or opera taster to see what you think. Its also great because you don't have to stay for the whole thing and can leave whenever you want. Its free so if you are nearby you should definitely pop along. Find out more here.

Peanut Butter Salted Caramel Cupcakes

I love peanut butter and try and add it into recipes all the time but it always takes over every other flavour so this time I fully committed and found a meant for peanut butter recipe, peanut butter cupcakes!

I used a recipe from Bake Then Eat and then I thought why not make them into a sort of Reece’s cup cupcake so I was going to smother them in caramel and cover that with milk chocolate but I got told to step away from the cupcakes before I could add the chocolate, apparently it would be to fatty blah, blah, blah but they are seriously tasty even without chocolate!

I used the caramel method from this recipe (I have also done this whole recipe before and it is delicious too), I would recommend bubbling for a little longer, maybe 2 minutes more than it says just to make it a bit thicker and I definitely used more than ½ a teaspoon of salt but I do like my food salty so taste as you add.

I had got out all my ingredients and then discovered that my scales weren’t working so it was very lucky there was a cup conversion but my measurements were still probably a little off. For the peanut butter addition I estimated and then went by taste and it tastes fantastic with dark brown sugar. I think I could have done with a bit more butter or milk because mine came out a little dry but they had a lovely crispy top and they are quite a bit smaller than the ones in the blog so maybe that dried them out but  they only needed 12 minutes in the oven!

They got an easy thumbs up from us and if you like peanut butter this one is for you and I bet it would be incredible with the peanut butter frosting.

What I wore …. 11th March 2014

I have on a Topshop love jumper which is very cosy and sweet. Forever 21 patterned trousers which are crazy comfy but may have been a little premature I had very chilly ankles on my way into work today. Some current Forever 21 patterned trousers below. Umm the socks were the first ones I saw and my hair and make-up are exactly the same because I’m feeling lazy.

What I Wore …. 10th March 2014

I have on a new jumper from Zara which I adore, I can’t resist a blinged up casual jumper I have two others but they only have stuff around the collar so this one is a nice change. Asos high waisted jeans which are so comfy and fit me really well, it’s weird a lot of jeans I try on are too baggy at the crotch? I have no idea what is going on with that but I’m sticking my head in the sand about it. Old Topshop boots the heels have been re-done three times and they have little holes in them so my feet get wet when it rains but I can’t find another pair of black boots that I like better.

For hair and make-up I did a side French plait, just taking hair from one side, some mascara, some mac myth lipstick, a light peachy colour, and some aloe Vaseline on top for some shine.

Graphic Ts

I love the idea of chucking on a graphic T, some skinny jeans and Chelsea boots and looking instantly cool, the trouble is I am sooooo picky when it comes to graphic Ts! Maybe I should finally commit to a band and get a band T but for now I kinda like this bunch;

Ready to Wear Fall 2014!!!! Burberry

So normally I'm not a big fan of Burberry they definitely lost me with the futuristic, metallic, PVC collection and I hadn't been back since but I loved this one. The relaxed not quite boho style, the scarves, the colour palate and the printed macs. Inspired by the Bloomsbury Group, a group of English writers, artists and intellects brought together at the start of the 1900s by their united belief in the importance of the arts, they ignored most Victorian conventions and social etiquette and became much more informal and self-indulgent but still kept their sophistication, even if they had complex geometric figure love shapes instead of just the plain old triangle. Bailey used the Bloomsbury Group to inspire the prints as well as the model styling basing it on how a muse would just throw on a scarf or coat before they went outside.

DIY Cake Stands

I have recently come across the phenomenon of making your own cake stands. It is such a cool, cute, useful idea! You basically choose your own plate for the cake holding part and this can be any shape, any size and any pattern and then find a stand. Lots of people use candle stick holders, some use glasses and I even saw a fancy table/stool leg being used. Once you have them both you can spray or paint them a different colour and super glue the two together. Done!

There are loads of examples on pinterest just search for 'DIY cake stands'. Below are some of my favourites.
